BE AWESOME! VOLUNTEER FOR SEPTEMBER OF SERVICE!
Congrats, CBU! In the first two weeks of September of Service, 141 volunteers have served over 500 hours at 13 Memphis agencies. Thanks to everyone who has come out and shown their CBU spirit! If you have signed up for a future project, please make SURE you can attend; we have had a lot of last-minute cancellations that hurt our ability to effectively serve our agencies.
Below are this week’s projects. Go to www.cbu.edu/sos to sign up. We have several openings for most of our events this week — but remember: Students, don’t miss class for SOS!
• Monday 1:15-4:30 p.m. (3 of 5 spots left due to last-minute cancellations)
We will do yard work and wash windows for the Memphis Center for Independent Living, which assists persons with disabilities become integrated into the community. Contact Kierra Turner
• Tuesday 3:20-6:00 p.m. (6 of 15 spots left)
We will serve Caritas Village by picking up trash around the Binghampton neighborhood. Caritas Village is a community center that provides services and creative outlets to the Binghampton neighborhood.
• Wednesday 6:15-10:00 a.m. (5 of 16 spots left)
We will be serving at St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen making sandwiches, chopping vegetables, serving food, sorting clothing, bagging toiletries and touring the church and learning the history of the soup kitchen, which has been operating continuously for 145 years.
• Thursday 3:20-6:00 p.m. (6 of 17 spots left)
We will be assisting First Congregational Church where we will be painting, cleaning, and beautifying the new space for their pantry, community meals, and clothes closet. First Congregational Church provides religious, art, music, and food ministries as well as shared living spaces.
• Friday 1:00-4:00 p.m. (4 of 15 spots left)
At Elmwood Cemetery, we will be cleaning headstones and monuments.
• Saturday three shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (1-2 spots left for each shift)
We will supervise the children’s area of games and bounce attractions at the Cooper-Young Festival.
• Sunday 1:15-4:00 p.m. (Full now — but check in case of cancellations)
We will serve De La Salle Elementary School with campus beautification, painting, and organizing.

LAST week, dozens of BUCs worked at seven local agencies. Members of the CBU family helped setup and cleanup for the farmers market at the Church Health Center; sorted toys at Harwood Center; sorted 4,000 pounds of food at the Mid-South Food Bank; weeded the sensory garden at SRVS; cleaned up with Literacy Mid-South after the Mid-South Book Festival; and assisted with a polo tournament for the Wings Cancer Foundation.
