CBU Selected as One of “10 to Watch”

CBU has been selected by the Greater Memphis Chamber as one of its “10 to Watch” in 2015. The Chamber has recognized 10 companies and organizations who stood out in 2014 for their leadership in the community, whether that be through driving the local economy, inspiring innovation or embracing change.

“CBU is honored to be among such esteemed company and to be recognized by the Chamber for our efforts in the community,” said Dr. John Smarrelli Jr., president of CBU.

“These 10 Memphis businesses were chosen for the tremendous accomplishments they made in 2014 and the promise of what’s yet to come,” said Phil Trenary, president and CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber. “The Chamber proudly recognizes these members for the jobs and talent they bring to Memphis, and we look forward to their future success.”

“We have a 144-year history of providing exceptionally educated, creative and innovative graduates to the Memphis marketplace and economy,” Smarrelli said. “And we are confident that our efforts to reach even deeper into the community through our partnerships with Shelby County Schools with Middle College High School and the Maxine Smith STEAM Academy, along with the new CBHS STEMM CoLaB, will strengthen the city’s educational foundation and pay rich dividends as our children become better prepared for both college and the growing technological demands on our workforce.

“This investment in the future is in keeping with our Lasallian heritage, an extension of the Christian Brothers’ mission to provide an education to young people, especially to the disadvantaged, and thus to build better communities and a better society. We certainly hope everyone will watch CBU this year, but more importantly we hope that everyone will watch our younger generation step up, prepared to make Memphis a more equitable, progressive, and prosperous city.”
