CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS: CBU will have cheerleaders for the first time in many years! Look for a table at the Involvement Fair this week! Tryouts will begin Friday, September 5, 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the Kroc Center in the indoor soccer arena. This will be a clinic time where the cheer, dance, and jumps will be taught. On Saturday, September 6, 10:00-12:00, there will be a review of the information that has been taught and tryouts will be held that evening 5:00-8:00 p.m. (all at the Kroc Center). NAACP CHARTERING CEREMONY:  CBU’s Collegiate Chapter of the NAACP will hold a Chartering Ceremony on September 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the University Theater. CBU is the FIRST Lasallian University to have its own chapter of the NAACP and there has not been a chapter of the NAACP installed in the state of Tennessee in years —  so join the CBU Chapter as it makes history! All faculty/staff, alumni, NAACP friends and members of the press are invited.

ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP INFORMATION SESSIONS: Attend an Academic Internship Information Session on September 10 to register for a spring term internship. Thirty-minute meetings will be held every half hour from 9:00 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. You only need to attend one session. COOPER YOUNG FESTIVAL: The Cooper-Young Festival, hosted by the Cooper Young Business Association, is Memphis’ most anticipated outdoor celebration. Held in Memphis’ largest historic district, the Cooper-Young Festival is scheduled for September 13, 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Enjoy free transportation from CBU to the festival with a valid CBU student ID. Experience art with over 425 artists from all over the nation.  Experience the music of local Memphis bands playing original tunes on three stages.  On the Main Stage, Cory Branan is this year’s headliner along with other popular Memphis musicians like Marcella Simian, Candace Ashir, James and the Ultrasounds, Mighty Souls Brass Band, Darrel Petties and Devil Train.  On the Memphis Grizzlies Stage, listen to your favorite garage punk bands with a lineup by Goner Records that will make you scream.  Be sure to catch Subtractions, Talbot Adams, Nots, Mark Edgar Stuart and the Manatees performing at 4:30 p.m.  The School of Rock Stage is located in the First Congo parking lot.  School of Rock students will be performing from noon until 5:00 p.m.  Go listen to a tribute to U2, some indie rock and more by these talented young people. THEATRE AUDITIONS: Theatre auditions for the Southern farce, Dearly Departed by David Botrelle and Jessie Jones, will be September 15 and September 16 in the University Theater at 6:00 p.m. Not since Steel Magnolias and Greater Tuna has a more colorful and dysfunctional group of Southern eccentrics gathered below the Mason-Dixon line. When the patriarch of the Turpin family keels over dead in the first scene, the struggle to get him buried involves the whole clan, including the not-so-grieving widow who wants to put “Mean and Surly” on the tombstone. For more information about the play and rehearsals, contact Matthew Hamner at mhamner@cbu.edu.

THE CANNON BALL CONCERT: CBU’s first Cannon Ball is a concert event featuring country music star Ben Bradford and local rock group Fingertrick.
