Take Action: Say No to Scholarship Cuts

PLEASE JOIN CBU AND TICUA IN SAYING “NO” TO CUTS IN OUR STUDENTS¹ SCHOLARSHIPS!

You may have heard about the Governor¹s Tennessee Promise, through which he proposes to make community college free for all recent high school graduates. In order to increase the community college grant from $2,000 to $3,000, the Governor is proposing cutting other students’ aid. The proposal cuts the freshman and sophomore Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship from $4,000 per year to $3,000 per year.

This reduction of lottery dollars will result in a yearly decrease of $7.7 Million in lottery scholarship funds for freshmen and sophomores at private universities like CBU. By cutting the lottery scholarship for students just starting their education at a 4-year college or university, the state is effectively limiting their choice of institutions.

Please tell your Legislators and the Governor that the funding of the Tennessee Promise through cuts in the lottery process is not right. Follow this link and make your voice heard! (The sample letter is written from a student’s perspective, so non-students should take a little time to rewrite their message.)
