• POETRY READING: The Department of Literature & Languages is presenting a poetry reading by Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie on Tuesday, October 22, at 12:30 p.m. in Kenrick Hall 200. Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie is the recipient of a 2010 Queens Council on the Arts grant for her research on herbalists of the African Diaspora working in urban and non-traditional settings. Her writing has been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies including Crab Orchard ReviewBOMBParis/AtlanticGoTell Michelle (SUNY), Listen Up! (One World Ballantine) and Revenge and Forgiveness (Henry Holt). GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION: The CBU Community is invited to attend a reception honoring Brother Dominic Ehrmantraut‘s Golden Jubilee — his 50th anniversary of becoming a Christian Brother — on Tuesday, October 22 at 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Sabbatini Lounge.

JAPAN EXCHANGE & TEACHING PROGRAM: Ready for the adventure of a lifetime in Japan? The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, which is sponsored by the Japanese government, offers you the opportunity to engage in intercultural exchange through language teaching in the Japanese public education system or by working in a local Japanese government office. Although no prior teaching experience and no prior Japanese-language skills are necessary for teaching positions, successful JET Program applicants must have a strong sense of responsibility, a genuine interest in learning about Japan, and an ability to adapt to a different culture and new situations.  In order to be eligible to apply to the program, applicants must be US citizens and have obtained a bachelor’s degree in any field by July 1 of their departure year. • BSA TALENT SHOW AUDITION: CBU’s Got Talent! Do you have a talent that needs to be displayed? Are you the next Beyoncé or Mariah Carey? Do you have moves like Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, or Ciara? Sign-up for BSA’s Talent Show! The Black Student Association will be hosting a Talent Show Friday, November 22 in the University Theater. Rehearsal and auditions start this Wednesday, October 23, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Spain Auditorium.  Can’t make it Wednesday? YEARBOOK CLUB INTEREST MEETING: Interested in layout? How about photography? Well, the Yearbook Club is the place for you! We do not have a CBU Yearbook on campus and will be starting one! TRI-BETA MOCK INTERVIEWS: Attention all sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in health care graduate programs: Tri Beta will be hosting mock interviews on Thursday, October 24 at 6:00 p.m. This event will consist of interviews with physicians, optometrists, and other health care professionals related to your field of interest. These interviews are intended to help you prepare for future interviews that are needed to get into graduate programs.
