In Memoriam

Desi-OwensDesiree “Desi” Owens (’85) died peacefully after a brief struggle with cancer on August 18 in Berkeley, CA, surrounded by family and friends who loved her, and her spouse and soul mate, Leslie Ross. Desi was a volleyball and basketball player at CBU from 1981 to 1985, and she was inducted into the CBU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. The family requests that memorials be sent to elder care organizations such as Alzheimer’s Services of the East Bay (aseb.org); organizations providing dignity and a creative voice for older individuals such as Stagebridge in Oakland (stagebridge.org); animal rights and rescue organizations such as the Milo Foundation (milofoundation.org); or organizations supporting equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, questioning and intersexed individuals.

Robert Kendall “Ken” Lamkin (BSBA ’06, MAT ’12) passed away August 11. Ken was with Ozburn Hessey Logistics, had been a manager for Caterpillar Logistics and a former teacher at White Station Middle School, Raleigh Egypt Middle School, and Cordova Middle School. He is survived by his wife, Dayna Jan Lamkin; son Robert Evan Lamkin; and stepson John Tyler Hayes of Memphis; his mother, Mary Lois Kendall; three brothers, Mark Lamkin, Lee Colby Lamkin, and Bobby Burns; and two sisters, Danette R. Lamkin and Tiffany Edwards. The family requests that memorials be made to the Robert Kendall Lamkin Memorial Fund at FundRazr.com.
